The death of actress Tabassum Govil on 13th September came as a shock to the film industry. She was 76. The news of her demise was shared by her son Jaaved Jaffrey on social media.

A prayer meet was held in Mumbai on Sunday in memory of the late actress. Tabassum Govil’s close friends and colleagues from the industry including Moushumi Chatterjee, Farah Khan, Jaaved Jaffrey and others were in attendance.

Moushumi Chatterjee, who worked with Tabassum Govil in films like ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’ and ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, was among the first to arrive at the venue. She was seen consoling Jaaved Jaffrey.

Farah Khan, who has worked with Jaaved Jaffrey in several films, also arrived to pay her last respects.

Others who were present at the prayer meet included Anupam Kher, Rakesh Roshan, Bipasha Basu, Abbas-Mustan, Sajid Khan, and Sajid Nadiadwala.

The industry veterans remembered Tabassum Govil as a warm and loving person. They also shared fond memories of working with her.

Tabassum Govil was a popular face in Hindi and Bengali films. She made her debut in the Bengali film ‘Bhranti Bilash’ in 1965. She went on to work in films like ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’, ‘Dosti’, ‘Namak Haraam’ and ‘Chor Machaaye Shor’.

She was also a popular TV actress and was seen in shows like ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’ and ‘ Khote Sikkey’.

Tabassum Govil was a recipient of the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015.
